Terms of Service

The agreement between you and Copare.

Effective date: October 2, 2026
Operator: CoPare LLC, doing business as Copare ("Copare", "we", "us")
Contact: support@copare.net

These Terms are a contract between you and Copare. They cover the Copare app and website at web.copare.net, the Copare mobile apps, and the professional portal at portal.copare.net (together, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. What Copare is, and what it is not

Copare helps separated or divorced parents communicate, schedule, share records and handle shared expenses. It also lets professionals you invite see the records you choose to share.

Copare is not a law firm, a court, a mediator, or a therapist, and nothing in the Service is legal, medical, financial or tax advice. Copare does not replace a court order or parenting plan, and it does not guarantee that any record, message, export or recording will be accepted as evidence or given any weight by a court or agency. Talk to a qualified professional about your situation.

2. Eligibility and accounts

  • You must be at least 18 and able to form a binding contract.
  • Give accurate information and keep it current. Keep your password and any verification codes secret. You are responsible for activity under your account.
  • Copare works between two co-parents who are matched to each other. You confirm that you have the right to connect with the person you match with.
  • Tell us right away at support@copare.net if you believe your account has been accessed without permission.

3. Your content and our license

You own what you put into the Service ("Your Content"), including messages, files, journal entries and recordings. You give Copare a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive license to host, store, process, transmit and display Your Content only as needed to provide, secure and support the Service, including running the automated safety and tone check described in the Privacy Policy. This license ends when you delete the content or close your account, except for copies that your co-parent or a professional already holds as part of a shared record, and backups that are removed on our normal schedule.

You are responsible for Your Content. You confirm you have the right to upload it and that it does not violate anyone's rights or the law.

4. Messages, records and exports

  • Messages in the Service are visible to both co-parents. Do not send anything you would not want the other parent, a professional you have authorized, or a court to read.
  • Copare records each message and can generate exports, with authentication codes, of records you choose. Exports are kept verifiable for five years.
  • You decide what to share with a professional, and you can revoke access at any time. Anything already viewed or downloaded cannot be recalled.

5. Calls and recordings

Calls can be recorded and transcribed by AI. Laws about recording differ by location. Some require every participant to consent. You are solely responsible for following the recording and privacy laws that apply, and for getting any consent that is required before you record. Do not record where it is unlawful.

6. Acceptable use

Do not use the Service to:

  • threaten, harass, stalk or intimidate anyone, or to send hateful, sexual or illegal content;
  • expose another person's private information, such as a home address, passwords or financial details;
  • violate a court order, or help anyone else to violate one;
  • upload malware, probe or attack the Service, or bypass its security;
  • impersonate someone, or create accounts using false information;
  • resell the Service or scrape it by automated means;
  • use it for anything unlawful.

Messages may be checked automatically for these things. We can remove content, limit features, or suspend or end accounts that break these rules or put people at risk. We are not obliged to monitor the Service and do not promise to catch every violation.

7. Subscriptions and billing

  • Plans. Paid plans (currently Basic, Plus and Complete, billed monthly or annually) are described at sign-up. Prices, limits and features may change with notice, and the change applies from your next billing period.
  • Payment. Payments are processed by Stripe. You authorize us and Stripe to charge your chosen payment method for the plan and any taxes. Plans renew automatically for the same period until you cancel.
  • Free trials and codes. A coupon or trial code may start a free period. When it ends, your payment method is charged unless you cancel before then.
  • Cancel any time in your account settings, or through the billing portal linked there. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and you keep access until then.
  • Refunds. Except where the law requires, fees are non-refundable and we do not refund partial periods. If you believe you were charged in error, email support@copare.net and we will review it. See also our Refund and Cancellation Policy.
  • Failed payments. If a payment fails we may retry it and may limit or suspend paid features until it is resolved.

8. Copare Pay (payments between co-parents)

  • Copare Pay lets one co-parent pay or reimburse the other. Payments are processed by Stripe. To receive money you must complete Stripe's onboarding, and you agree to the Stripe Connected Account Agreement and Stripe's other terms. To pay by bank account you also authorize Stripe to debit it.
  • Copare is not a bank. We do not hold your money.
  • Payments may be delayed, held or reversed by Stripe or the banks, for example for verification, fraud checks or a failed bank debit. You are responsible for the accuracy of amounts and recipients you enter.
  • Copare Pay records payments and requests. It does not decide who owes what, and it is not a substitute for a court-ordered support process.
  • Fees. A processing fee applies to Copare Pay payments. The rate depends on your plan and is listed on the plan page.

9. Professionals using the portal

If you use the portal as a professional, you also confirm that you are authorized to practice in your field where required, that you will use client information only as your client has authorized and your professional and legal duties allow, and that you will keep it confidential and secure. Copare is not your client's provider and does not supervise your services.

10. Text messages and email

By providing your phone number and email address you agree that we may send you sign-in and verification codes, security alerts and notifications you enable. Message and data rates may apply to text messages. You can turn optional notifications off in settings. We will not send marketing text messages without separate consent.

11. Our intellectual property

The Service, including its software, design, text, logos and the Copare name, belongs to us or our licensors and is protected by law. We give you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service as these Terms allow. Do not copy, modify, reverse engineer or create derivative works of it, except where the law allows.

12. Third-party services

The Service relies on third parties such as Stripe, Twilio, Amazon Web Services, AssemblyAI, OpenAI and DigitalOcean. We are not responsible for their services or terms, though we choose them carefully and limit what we share with them.

13. Ending your account

You may close your account at any time by contacting support@copare.net (or in the app, when available). We may suspend or end your access for breaking these Terms, for legal reasons, or if continuing would create risk for us or others. On closure, your right to use the Service ends. The sections that by their nature should survive (ownership, disclaimers, limits of liability, disputes) continue. Export what you need first.

14. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not promise that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, that automated checks or transcripts will be accurate, or that any record will produce a particular result in any legal matter.

15. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Copare and its owners, employees and suppliers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or US$100. Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you. Nothing here limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit.

16. Indemnity

You will defend and reimburse us for claims, losses and costs (including reasonable legal fees) that arise from Your Content, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of law or of someone else's rights, to the extent the law permits.

17. Disputes and governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before filing a claim, please contact support@copare.net so we can try to resolve the problem informally.

18. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. For material changes we will give you notice, by email or in the app, before they take effect. If you keep using the Service after the effective date, you accept the updated Terms. If you do not agree, close your account before then.

19. General

These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between us on this subject. If a provision is unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. Our not enforcing a term is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them in a merger or sale of the business.
